Instructions
1. Register with my network
Go to the registration
page for my network and enter your details to become part of my private
network. For future reference, my private network number is 558.
You'll have to choose a user name, but your password will be sent to you via email.
2. Download the BitWise IM software
BitWise IM works on Windows,
Apple and Linux computers. You can
download the software from
the BitWise IM site.
Windows users! You can download a preconfigured
version of the software here: Setup_BitWise_4_JassyTimberlake.exe.
This is already configured to connect to my private network so it will save you some time and bother.
The screenshots below are from BitWise running on Windows XP, but it looks
much the same on the Apple Mac or Linux.
3. Start BitWise
After installing BitWise, start it up.
If you installed the preconfigured version, skip the remainder of this section.
Click on the Setup... button:
In the setup window that appears, check the Network ID box, and enter 558 in the adjacent text box:
Close the setup window.
4. Connect
Enter your username and password, then click Log In:
5. You're Logged In
Once you've logged in you'll be presented with a window like the one below.
The illuminated bulb next to JassyTimberlake shows that Jassy is online.
6. Starting a Session
Jassy will contact you at the time your session starts, when
you'll see a window like so:
To write a reply, type in the box to the right of Jassy's picture, where it says
"Hi Jassy, ...". Press return to send the message, or click Send.
Note: if you get a warning that a "direct connection" is not
possible, please don't worry. It is being worked on, and it won't prevent us from
doing the session. However, it does mean that the whiteboard and file-transfer
features of BitWise will not work.
